About Fisher's Fishes
Welcome to Fisher's Fishes, a global theoretical biology society for researchers who explore living systems through quantitative and conceptual lenses. We believe that the elegance of biology becomes clearer when viewed through mathematics, physics, and computation, and we aim to create a space where these ideas can be explored, developed, and refined together.
Fisher's Fishes began as a small theoretical biology journal club at IISER Pune. As students and colleagues from other places joined, it grew into a virtual society that now connects members across institutes around the world. We bring together people working in eco evolutionary dynamics, biophysics, systems and synthetic biology, population genetics, neuroscience, mathematical oncology, and many emerging fields that use theory to understand complex biological phenomena.
We care deeply about creating a space where early stage researchers feel comfortable sharing and learning. Our community includes undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars, and many of our events are led by students who present papers they find interesting or talk about their own work. We want Fisher's Fishes to be a place where people can discuss ideas even when they are still taking shape, and where curiosity and open conversations guide the science we do together.
We are now expanding into a magazine and are inviting article submissions related to the broad theme of theoretical biology. We welcome finished work, semester projects, posters, theses, and exploratory ideas that could inspire others in the community.
If you would like to join the society, you can request to be added through our Google Group. Links to our WhatsApp and Discord communities are available at the top of this page. The website is updated twice each semester, and all announcements are first shared through our WhatsApp group, mailing list, and our social media handles. You can join using the landing link provided or email fishesfishers@gmail.com.
